In April 2025, Senior Clinical Educator Sam Harrison traveled to Pyeongtaek, South Korea, for a hands-on visit with the dedicated team at Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital. As part of our ServicePlus program, Sam conducted a CensiTrac utilization assessment and led on-site training sessions, working side by side with staff to strengthen workflows and maximize the impact of their sterile processing technology. The trip was not only a chance to provide education and support, but also an opportunity to experience the culture, commitment, and camaraderie that define this essential military medical facility.
From the Front Lines of Sterile Processing in South Korea
Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital (BDAACH) at U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys in South Korea is the largest U.S. military base overseas. As the largest U.S. military base overseas, Camp Humphreys is home to a massive community, and BDAACH plays a critical role in supporting over 65,000 beneficiaries, including active duty service members, their families, and retirees. The hospital is impressive, with 68 inpatient beds, four operating rooms, and a wide range of advanced services, from robotic-assisted surgery to behavioral health and 24/7 emergency care. They see more than 5,000 inpatient admissions and 200,000 outpatient visits each year.
What stood out to me most was the commitment of the sterile processing team, working behind the scenes to ensure every instrument is ready, safe, and tracked with precision. It was an honor to see how the team is not only supporting clinical excellence but also directly contributing to military readiness and quality of life in such a strategic setting.
In the SPD: Streamlining with CensiTrac at Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital
During my visit, I had the pleasure of working alongside Major Pia, SSG Prado-Medina, and Mr. Tomikawa, who were leading the sterile processing department at the time. The visit focused on installing the necessary hardware to support expanded use of CensiTrac across multiple areas of the facility. With these updates in place, the SPD team began leveraging CensiTrac to capture and automate key phases of the workflow, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and post-sterilization tracking.
Both leadership and frontline staff were engaged and enthusiastic about adopting a digital solution to bring greater standardization and visibility to their daily processes. Thanks to the department’s professionalism, organization, and readiness, the integration of CensiTrac was seamless. Their warm hospitality and clear dedication to high standards made the visit not only productive but truly enjoyable.

Exploring Pyeongtaek: Culture, Innovation, and Connection
Located in South Korea’s Gyeonggi-do province, Pyeongtaek is a city of around 650,000 people and one of the country’s fastest-growing economic hubs. Over the past decade, it has transformed into a key player in South Korea’s industrial and technological rise, home to one of the world’s largest semiconductor facilities, the massive Samsung complex that spans nearly 3 million square meters (about the size of 400 soccer fields). The blend of cutting-edge innovation and rich cultural heritage makes Pyeongtaek a uniquely exciting place to explore.
During our visit, I had the chance to walk through the vibrant Tongbok Market, a true cultural experience full of energy, color, and culinary creativity. The market is lined with vendors offering fresh ingredients, sizzling street food, and warm conversations, reflecting the deep community ties and traditions that define daily life in South Korea. From bubbling stews to handmade snacks, every corner offered something new to discover and enjoy.
I'm incredibly grateful to the team at Brian D. Allgood Army Community Hospital for welcoming us with such professionalism and hospitality. It was an honor to support your team, and we look forward to continuing our partnership as you provide thoughtful, dependable care to the community, backed by tools that make your work a little easier every day.
